One of my best friends told me yesterday that if you like someone and you know s/he will never like you back it’s a sign that you haven’t accepted yourself, because otherwise you would realize that you should be with someone who loves you and appreciates you. Thoughts?

Girl: I am not sure I am following what you're trying to say. You meant this to be a compliment, right? You don't mean that I'm ordinary, do you?
Boy: No, of course not. I've never met anyone quite like you. And I mean that as a compliment.
Girl: That's a nice thing to say. Thank you. People have told me that before... but I am afraid that if that's the reason why they like me, the more they get to know me and the more they realize how in reality I am mostly like everyone else, the less they will like me. I am terrified of that, really. So sometimes I try to convince myself that it's a bad idea to let people get to know me.
